Centaur: Safe, clean appearance, low maintenance. Medium-to-high price range. Top
wire or strand may be energized to keep stock off fence. Bottom strand also can be energized to reduce the chance for
predators entering your fields.

Contour/Continuous Fencing: the ideal pasture or perimeter fence. It is horse safe, extremely
durable and requires zero maintenance. Contour Fencing is as attractive, as it is strong, offering lasting beauty through
decades of use. Cost is higher but more affordable than you might think.
Mesh: Safe, excellent for foals and keeping things OUT of your paddocks, as well as your horses
in. Varieties include non-climb, high tensile, diamond. Requires some maintenance, keeping wires tight.
Medium to high cost. Solid top rail or hot wire to keep stock off fence is recommended.

Wood: Safe, aesthetic fence for horses. Less forgiving than Centaur or vinyl. High
maintenance in western Washington, stain or pressure wash to keep from turning moss green. Higher cost.
PVC Vinyl: Safe, attractive, low maintenance. Higher Cost. Recommend energized top
wire. Be sure to check product quality carefully, some variation on clips and how rails are inserted reflects directly
on fence integrity.
Post and Rail: Safe, attractive, higher maintenance to keep moss at bay. Medium to high
cost.

New Zealand Electric: Less safe, low maintenance, low cost. Ideal for perimeters, where
brush can offer clear visual. Also ideally suited for heavily wooded areas, where trees are likely to fall on the fence.
Not suited for turn-out runs or small adjoining paddocks. Add coated electric wire on the top, such as Equi-fence to
improve visibility. Replace electric wires w/ tape or wide horse tape for semi-temporary installations.
